‘J&K has ₹836.29 crore pending MGNREGS dues, Ladakh ₹5.33 crore’ | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 28 (KNO): The Union government on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that Jammu and Kashmir has pending liabilities of ₹836.29 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), while Ladakh has pending dues of ₹5.33 crore as on April 1, 2026. Replying to a question raised by Adv Chandra Shekhar, Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan said the government has made a budgetary provision of ₹95,692.31 crore for Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) for the period from July 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. He said an additional ₹36,000 crore was also allocated for MGNREGS for the first three months of the current financial year. According to the data tabled in the House and accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Jammu and Kashmir's pending dues include ₹207.69 crore under the wage component and ₹628.60 crore under the material component, taking the total pending liability to ₹836.29 crore. Ladakh has pending dues of ₹0.89 crore towards wages and ₹4.44 crore under the material component, with a total liability of ₹5.33 crore. The minister further informed the House that during the current financial year, the Centre has released ₹9,711.98 crore towards pending wage liabilities, including all admissible wage liabilities for 2025-26. It has also sanctioned ₹7,765.68 crore as the first instalment for clearing material liabilities, of which ₹5,440.07 crore has already been utilised by States and Union Territories. He added that the release of funds for settlement of pending MGNREGS liabilities is a continuous process and is based on demand, utilisation of previously released funds, and submission of complete proposals by the States and Union Territories in accordance with the prescribed guidelines—(KNO)
